Enchanting Orient-Express hotels and train journeys in SE Asia’s most desirable destinations offer a range of Chinese New Year holidays
Enchanting Orient-Express hotels and trains in some of Southeast Asia’s most desirable holiday destinations invite travellers on a journey of discovery this Chinese New Year, with a range of inclusive holidays featuring unusual excursions and exotic adventures in Bali, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.
In Cambodia, La Résidence d'Angkor is the ideal base from which to explore one of the wonders of the ancient world, the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat. A three-night stay in this intimate luxury retreat in the heart of Siem Reap includes a full-day tour of the famous temples, as well as a gourmet dinner for two with a traditional Apsara dance performance and spa treatments beside the Siem Reap River. On offer from January 20-29, the Chinese New Year package starts at US$395 per night.
In Bali, two distinctly different Orient-Express resorts offer the contrast of an idyllic beach or hilltop holiday. Ubud Hanging Gardens, a haven of peace and tranquillity amid Bali’s renowned emerald rice terraces in its ancient centre of arts and culture, is offering a ‘Family Package’ in a luxury two-bedroom duplex pool villa with large upstairs terrace and infinity pool.
Activities for families include river rafting or mountain biking, Land Rover tours or elephant safari rides, to experience the true beauty of Bali. Starting at US$830 per night for travel during Chinese New Year, this offer is tailored for at least four, staying two nights or more, and also includes traditional Balinese welcome drinks, buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and one dinner – as well as free mountain bikes and shuttle to explore nearby Ubud.
For a thoroughly relaxing beach side Bali escape, the Jimbaran Puri Bali is located on one of the island’s most stunning beaches and offers a three-night stay including a full-day private tour with a personal driver to visit the Uluwatu Temple and a magical Kecak dance performance.
The holiday package starts at US$595 for a Gardenview Cottage Suite and is based on double occupancy with daily breakfast plus dinner at the resort’s celebrated Nelayan restaurant, with one-way airport transfer.
On the Thai paradise island of Koh Samui, award-winning resort Napasai also offers a package perfect for families, including full day 'safari' tour with lunch. Tailored for up to four, accommodation is in a Villa Suite or Private Pool Residence, with round-trip airport transfers, breakfast, full-day around the island safari trip (including lunch), Thai fruit carving class, evening beach private BBQ and Thai dinner also included at Laithai restaurant. Daily rates start from US$449 over the holiday season for a Seaview Hillside Villa and are available for a minimum stay of seven nights and upwards.
For those seeking the adventure of a train journey for the holidays, the luxury Eastern & Oriental Express ‘Tales of Laos’ journey - part of the Chronicles of South-East Asia -  embarks from Bangkok to Laos on January 22 over Chinese New Year. Priced at US$4,000 per person with accommodation in a State Cabin, the 4-day journey includes all meals, table wines and cultural excursions on the journey to Vientiane – plus two nights at the legendary Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok, with breakfast and dinner.
Guests can alternatively travel for two nights into Laos embarking from Bangkok, then fly to the historic World Heritage town historic Luang Prabang for a one night stay at Orient-Express resort La Residence Phou Vao starting at US$1,767 per person in a Pullman Cabin. Another option is a one-way return journey from Laos capital to Bangkok with one night at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, priced from US$1,540.
La Résidence Phou Vao was recently voted as one of the World’s Best Hotels in 2011 by renowned magazine, Travel + Leisure. Chinese New Year rates at this award-winning Orient-Express property start from US$531 per night (minimum two nights) in the former royal capital including breakfast, airport transfers, a traditional Baci ceremony by monks and six course ‘Lao Degustation’ dinner for two and is available from January 20 to February 14, 2012.
